Cornerstone's after school hours
provide a supervised fun and safe place for youth to hang out from
3-5pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
- Free
Time
- Youth
enjoy free time from 3:00-4:25. During
free time youth have access to homework help, the snackbar, the game
room, video games, and board games.
- Structured
Activity
- At 4:25,
the youth
gather to participate in a structured group activity (Tuesday) or Bible
lesson (Thursday)
- On
Tuesdays, the activity is structered in a way that facilitates
teamwork. Youth get the opportunity to get to know one another
better and work together to accomplish a goal. Some of the youth's
favorite Tuesday activities are making nachos in food groups, playing
two hand touch football, and strategizing for Dime Derby. On Thursdays, our Bible lessons
are designed in a way that encouarges
youth interaction. The lesson usually begins with a game or visual
demonstration that illustrates the point of the lesson. Sometimes
stations are set up where youth read and reflect on Scripture,
sometimes we watch DVDs, and other times we have open discussions about
a topic. Either way, we strive to create an environment where
youth feel comfortable to voice their doubts, questions, opinions, and
fears.
*When
youth
come to the center for the first time, they go through an
orientation where they meet the director, learn about the purpose of
the center, and hear the expectations of conduct. Youth must sign
the "Cornerstone Committment" if they want to be part of the
center
